From the beginning, Mother Teresa attracted women, men, the young and children, from all nations, cultures, backgrounds and beliefs, to share in the work of loving service to God. Mother called these people ‘Co-workers’.
The Co-worker Movement
The Co-workers join the Missionaries of Charity in seeking to respond to the thirst of Jesus: His thirst for the salvation of all, and His thirst within each person for the fullness of life and love. Co-workers, are encouraged to get to know the poor in their own families, neighbourhood, work place, town or city. To do for them the little things no one has time to do. At the same time maintaining a deep love in their own home, attending to the needs there before serving the poor outside. Those who live close enough are invited to pray and work with the Missionaries of Charity Sisters, Brothers or Fathers. “Be kind and merciful. Let no one ever come to you without going away better and happier. Be the living expression of God’s kindness; kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your warm smile.” (Mother) If you are interested in becoming a co-worker, contact your nearest community of the Missionaries of Charity. You can get in touch through email here » Volunteering “It is only when we know the people that we can understand and love them.” (Mother) It is the spirit of the Missionaries of Charity to work with simple means and to rely on God’s providence for our needs. We do not undertake any fundraising. |
